Life Happens . . . so does Sacred Breath

Thus
begins
the cadence,
rhythmic blending,
as two become one.
The music of loving,
relationship’s harmony,
a cycle of life renewing,
swells within fertility’s embrace,
protecting solemnity; sacred breath.

His heart and hands lovingly watch over her.
From the cradle of warmth, womb release,
a cry escapes, echoing life,
in welcome joy, she snuggles.
Mortal realms, sands of time,
grains for memories,
hourglass blessings
reverence
sacred
breath.

Embrace the emotion washing from head to toe. Be still. Cuddle, snuggle, hold, and hug. Look into the windows of the soul before gazing upward. Absorb the immersion, waves of indescribable love and gratitude flooding your heart. Remember! Breathe and live.

Dad,
I’m here.
I love you.
Touching the face,
once so familiar,
bright blue windows connect
in each other’s souls, cradling
harmony, memories of warmth.
Squatting beside him, both close their eyes.
Nestling on his shoulder, she remembers.

His gentle heart pumps, their hands hold times past.
Reverberations through moments live,
evidence of mere mortal realms.
She whispers her heart to him,
confiding hopes, she trusts
his silence guards her,
echoes of life,
bonded lives,
sacred
breath.

Embrace the emotion washing from head to toe. Be still. Cuddle, snuggle, hold, and hug. Look into the windows of your soul before gazing upward. Absorb the immersion, waves of indescribable love and gratitude flooding your heart. Remember! Breathe and live.

Slow,
shallow
sacred breath,
escapes his lips,
indiscernible,
like a shadow lurking
behind fading window light.
Placing her hand upon his chest,
seeking melodic rhythms, she feels.
The changing tempo commands solemn notes.

The father/daughter symphonic blending
in memory’s harmony lifts their souls,
a musical performance, depths
of emotions strike heartstrings,
altering the rhythm
of togetherness.
He held her first,
she, him last.
Sacred
breath.

From mortal realms of suffering, pain, happiness, and joy, he leaves a body, memories, friendship, and love to join immortal dimensions of peace, comfort, and loving relationships. The first man of my life nurtured, encouraged, and taught me the meaning of loving relationships by example in deed and words. Alzheimer’s stealing curse could never reach his heart, gentle he lived until last tears seeping from his weary body allowed those kind blue eyes to close in final farewell within seconds of joint kisses upon his head and cheeks from both sides of the bed. “I love you, dad. It is alright to go. I’ll be okay,” two sisters echoing each other’s aching heart, speak quietly in solemn harmony. My hand upon his heart ceases to detect the shallowness, gone the beating and sacred breath of life from my mortal eyes and touch. 11:58 pm February 24, 2021.

  1. I’m sorry to have read of your loss. Our fathers imprint upon our hearts in a special way that only fathers can. I lost my dad in 2004. Even though the years have slipped by catching me at times feeling like it was but yesterday my memories of him of late are of when he was younger. Perhaps my heart and soul are laid bare with the unexpected loss of my youngest brother, Kevin, just one month ago today. He was 59. My brother so loved our dad. I think as Kevin watched his sweet wife and others desperately trying to save his life he turned his view for just a moment to the brilliance that lay before him. I’m sure he saw my father’s eyes lovingly speaking, without words, telling him to come home.
My last moments with my dad in the hospital were sweet as I tucked him in for a nap, peacefully wrapped in a quilt, kissed him on the cheek, whispered “I love you” only to be called back as he had slipped away in his sleep.
I still miss my “daddy” but I know he, along with my mom and his eldest brother are now embracing their youngest child and brother, enjoying a sweet reunion. My heart is still so raw with Kevin’s passing I am numb at times and my heart physically aches.
Our loved ones are woven into the patterns of our lives and as you have said goodbye to your dad the fabric of your soul becomes richer with memories of your time with him. He will always be with you. Kevin and I send our love.

  3. Beautifully written….the words touched my heart. Your father was a sweet man and he was blessed to have you in his life.

  4. Our dear friend Vicki,
That was the most beautifully written and touching discussion of your sacred life-long relationship with your father. We are honoured to have had it shared with us.
    Thank you,
    Mel and Dee Hiscock

  5. Wow. I read and re read it several times and it wasn’t easy to read it all in one go. Words seldom do justice in moments like these.I am sorry for your loss. Dad is now in a happier place. Joseph
